The Knowledge of Life

SANSCRIT

Ayurveda translates to the ‘knowledge of life’ or ‘understanding of nature’ and is the 5000-year-old healing science of India. It is the oldest medical system continually practiced by Hindu, Christian, Muslim and Buddhist  countries throughout the world. The World Health Organization estimates that Ayurvedic Medicine treats almost one third of the world’s population! This ancient medicine has clearly proven the test of time.

Ayurvedic Medicine treats the individual rather than the disease by looking at the body’s function as opposed to its structure. It strives to bring the systems of the body into equilibrium so that the body, or metabolism, functions as a unit according to the needs of its environment.

Vikriti Dosha

Prakriti Dosha

Your Ideal Dosha Body Type

Your Prakriti is your Ideal Body Type. This is the naturally balanced state of your body prior to effects of outside influence.  Our Mission is to help you return to your naturally balanced state of wellness.

Vata

WIND

The Vata type of person will tend to have a variable digestive capacity. This means foods that are concentrated and hard to digest should be avoided or taken in small amounts. The Vata type is also sensitive to gas forming foods and foods that deplete the moisture content in the body. The Vata type is the most prone to have food allergies due to their variable enzyme function. These people tend to binge and have both a variable appetite and digestion. Hence, they should consume food in moderate amounts and at regular intervals.

Oily, moist, warm, soft, nourishing foods will be the most beneficial to counter balance dry, light, cold, and rough qualities. Vata should prioritize neutral, sour and salty tastes and have less astringent and bitter tastes. Also, be careful with concentrated, gas-producing and drying foods such as crackers, chips, etc.

Pita

FIRE

The Pitta type of person has the strongest digestive capacity- they can handle large quantities and a wide variety of foods.

A Pitta person’s digestion is disturbed by too much spicy or acidic food. The Pitta type is the most sensitive to sour (fermented) and acidic foods that increase Pitta the body. They may be attracted to hot spices, but these kinds of foods tend to increase the bile production in the liver and pancreas which increases the acidic nature of both blood and plasma. Human cells are very sensitive to the pH level of the body and high Pitta, or acidity, ages cells or breaks down their normal metabolic function.

To balance out hot, oily, sharp, light, spreading and liquid qualities, Pitta types will benefit from including cool, dry, heavy, dense qualities in their meals. Pitta has a strong metabolism and can’t ignore hunger or skip meals.

Kapha

WATER

The Kapha type of person has the slowest digestive function, so Kapha people will be the most prone to weight gain and obesity. They will have to pay the closest attention to the quantities of food consumed and will have the most restrictive diet. They are the most sensitive to carbohydrates especially in simple sugars, yet all excess tends to clog and further slowdown the transformation of food. Dairy products due to their mucus forming properties and congestive qualities can also trouble them. The enzyme function of these people is lower than the other types, but is consistent. Hence, they can have stronger digestive power than the fluctuating Vata type.

Kapha types have to make sure not to overeat, not to indulge in desserts and they should skip breakfast. To balance out the oily, cold, heavy, dull and soft qualities of Kapha, prioritize dry, warm, light, pungent, sharp qualities in meals.
